MUMBAI: When residents of Sai Kutir Society in Koparkhairane saw an injured “stray dog” on their premises, they called up an Animal Rescue Group for help. To their surprise, the “dog” turned out to be a jackal!
It was a dehydrated adult female jackal which was rescued late on Tuesday, said Srikant Raskar, an animal welfare officer from Navi Mumbai Animal Rescue Group for injured domestic dogs.
Raskar informed the Mulund Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals which sent out an ambulance. The jackal was treated for injuries and given saline, said Pawan Sharma of Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare. “Mangroves are being hacked. This jackal is an example of how humans have put survival of animals at stake,” he said.
